Wake Up With INSPIRATION | Go To Sleep With APPRECIATION

Welcome to the Centre for Stress Management, an affordable and evidence-based wellness centre founded by Dr. Mark L. Gandolfi, that provides transformation and flourishing services for children, teens, couples, families, individuals and all types of organizations with face-to-face (in person) and online sessions (for local and overseas clients). Dr. Mark has over 40 years of healthcare leadership, academic teaching, clinical supervision, counselling, coaching, training and consulting experience that inspired the development of his four pillars of well-being for clients to learn (not get "fixed") how to survive and thrive in today's changing - challenging world. Central to our four pillars of well-being that we include in all of our services, Dr Mark works closely with each and every client to ensure the transformation-flourishing program he develops for health and happiness is client-centric, never a one-size fits all approach. Essentially, tailored for each person, driven by their specific wellness goals.

Our counselling and coaching services teach our clients healthy lifestyle behaviors, positive mindsets, and robust mood regulation skills that i) prevents (further) disease, injury or illness, ii) sustains a person's overall well-being lifestyle, and iii) improves their overall quality of life. Our three vibrant goals of prevention, sustainment, and improvement rejuvenates each person's wellness so each client can add more years to their life, but more importantly, add more meaningful life to their years. Wellness at the Centre for Stress Management is a 360 degree perspective on how "well" a person is at a specific stage in their personal and professional life. Well-being on the other hand is what we call the intentional behaviours a person can activate on a regular basis to have a greater quality of life (wellness). Client wellness is thus measured and achieved at our practice with our four pillars of well-being: sleep hygiene, physical activity, smart-mindful nutrition, and mood-thinking regulation. In short, our services educates our clients how to intentionally activate a range of well-being behaviors in sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and thought-mood regulation so their goals in counselling and coaching are achievable and sustainable.

Dr Mark's approach with consulting and training is designed as a catalyst for individual and organizational growth by expanding perspective, enhancing clarity, and amplifying confidence. We view training as strengthening a person or team's current abilities, empowering new competencies, and fortifying resilience and perseverance (what we call grit). Consulting on the other hand is a collaborative process of sharing new knowledge and past wisdom to invigorate an organization's growth mindset to seek new opportunities, unlock hidden potentials, and transform the working culture from just short-term gains to as well long-term flourishing. Both training and consulting is much more than improving the bottom line, it's more about elevating people to become the best version of who they are at work and in the communities they live in. Overall, Dr Mark's training and consulting embraces a culture of the four pillars of well-being, lifelong learning, curiosity outside the comfort zone, and purposeful behaviours that produces achievement and success.

The Impact Stress Has On Our Health

"It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it." Lou Holtz

Stress is not "just in your head," the short and long-term effects of unhealthy stress can negatively impact every part of your physical and psychological state. Yet, stress is an essential state for the human body that allows each person to survive and thrive, what we call eustress (e.g. we require healthy stress to pump blood through our heart). However, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), stress is the major cause for over 75% of doctor visits, healthcare treatments, relationship strain, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, sick days from work and school, emotional illness, numerous medical ailments, and unhealthy lifestyles. Hence, stress that is unhealthy and becomes chronic can cause our physical and mental states to become negatively impacted (poor health), directly influencing a person's longevity (how short or long is one's lifespan), impacting one's well-being (our daily habits and patterns), and reducing our overall quality of life (wellness).

Stress exists on a continuum, ranging from boredom stress (little to no stimulation) to the other end of the spectrum called performance stress (acute elevated to chronic excessive stimulation). We now understand that boredom stress can cause many people to feel stagnated and or uninspired which often times triggers melancholy (low mood), laziness (low energy), worry and even anger (agitation). With acute-elevated and or acute-chronic performance stress, this can eventually cause fatigue, and for some individuals, exhaustion, with a high risk of burn-out with work and life. Thus, performance stress may lead to numerous mood states to include depression, anger, shame, low self-esteem, panic attacks and anxiety. Concurrently, we see most types of performance stress causing physical ailments such as high blood pressure, poor sleep, unhealthy eating, little exercise, and numerous other medical conditions. And yes, some individuals can actually experience both boredom stress in their work and personal lives, and at the same time be experiencing performance stress in their personal and or work lives. In short, what we call paradoxical complicated stress.

Dr Mark's lifestyle medicine, neuroscience, and positive psychology wellness approach empowers our clients to better understand "the what" (e.g. what is generalized anxiety), and then "the how" (e.g. how do I resolve my anxiety I am with?). Thus, our services embrace the premise that to effectively problem solve the challenges in our life each person must have clarity on "the what" so they can accurately and meaningfully pursue the how. We sincerely believe that when you invest your time with us, you will experience not only problem solving and healing your stressors in life, you will also further evolve your authentic self, growth mindset, and well-being tools for a more happier and healthier work - life experience.

Four Pillars of Well-being In All Services

Pillar 1: Relax - Rest - Sleep

A comprehensive review of our clients' relax, rest, and sleep habits is key in restoring one's mental and physical wellness. This well-being pillar is a CBTi and psycho-educational program that improves deep and REM sleep states which elevates good mood, improves cognitive functioning, and strengthens the immune system.

Pillar 2: Stress Management

Second well-being pillar provides insight for our clients how work/life habits create unhealthy stress that impacts their time, energy, and cognitive management. A key goal for our clients is learning how to have a harmonious work-life integration with the least amount of unhealthy stress.

Pillar 3: Movement - Nutrition

Wellness is not about losing weight or joining a gym, it's more about having a smart-mindful nutrition and regular physical activity schedule you can maintain based upon many factors, including a person's work-life demands. Clients learn how to develop and sustain an invigorating physical activity and smart-mindful nutrition daily habit.

Pillar 4: Think - Mood Regulation

We teach our clients how to understand the way we think and why they feel certain emotions that impacts their overall wellness. This 4th well-being pillar allows our clients to develop healthy emoting and thinking habits to be resilient - optimistic with life's challenges to fortify adaptability and amplify happiness.
